Food Preservation Demonstration!

This live presentation showcased our canning/fermenting “toolbox” and highlighted some of the latest tools that made canning faster and easier. The program was held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Norco Sportsman Club. It was free and open to members and friends.
Carol, Jen, and Shelly demonstrated how to can an Asian-style pickle and a delicious jam. We also showed how to make a fermented pico de gallo-style salsa, which keeps well in the refrigerator for several weeks. We had some of our favorite canning and fermenting cookbooks on hand, along with resources for safe canning practices and a variety of recipes. As we worked, we answered questions and delved into the science behind canning and fermenting.
We welcomed members who were experienced with canning so they could share their expertise, tricks, and tips with all of us. We also provided recipes. If attendees had already preserved some foods, they were encouraged to bring samples for taste testing!
